Synopsis

After denouncing the benefits of sport and the master in charge of it at school, Robert is made to do P.E. with the girls group where he teams up with a rather slow girl, a teaming that doesn't end with the lesson.

Girls P.E.

"Girls, I think you all know why Robert is taking Games and P.E. with us for the time being..." Miss Coombs the P.E. mistress started.

"Because he's a sissy," Charlotte giggled.

"No," Miss Coombs retorted with more force in her voice than usual, "That's what Mr. Marstone might say, but no boy who stands up to his wrath for what he believes in, should be called a sissy. It took a lot of courage to do that, courage I doubt any of you would have. I don't agree with his beliefs but I will try to accept them and fit them into our schedule as far as possible and you will have to accept them too."

Charlotte looked chastened but brightened when Sarah asked, "Will he be showering with us Miss?"

I had brief visions of seeing naked girls for the first time but Miss Coombs quickly dispelled them. "Sorry to disappoint you Sarah, but having him amongst us is as far as we are going.

"I have a spare P.E. skirt I can loan him, Miss." More giggles.

"Thank you Clara, but that won't be necessary, now let's get this lesson started. Robert go and change in the boy's area and be outside this door in five minutes, girls get into your games kit now."

My confrontation with Mr. Marstone started several years before when I refused to buy football boots. A letter to my parents brought the reply from Mother, "Robert has sufficient allowance to buy his own clothes and he makes his own decisions about what is and what is not necessary. There is no legal requirement for him to provide special footwear for a sport he doesn't wish to participate in." Thereafter Mr. Marstone either ignored me or berated me for not doing things as well or as quickly as he wanted. It came to a head at the beginning of term. Being now in my final year at secondary school and wanting to do well in my academic subjects and always having a hatred for sport, I never put any effort into it and propounded my belief that it promoted aggression, one team trying to out-do the other; one person wanting to be better than his partner. On the football field I never ran towards the ball and if it ended at my feet, I either kicked it off the field or to a player on the opposing team. Mr. Marstone sent me off several times and I withstood verbal abuse from him until he tried to make me run the cross-country course again after I'd jogged round and came to the finish well behind the others. "That's physical abuse," I told him, "You're not allowed to punish pupils physically." The anger showed in his features and he grabbed my arm and told me he'd had enough of my insolence. "That's assault in front of witnesses, Sir, let go or you'll hear from my lawyer in the morning." For a few moments a stand-off ensued, witnessed by my classmates.

Without appearing to back down, he ordered, "Detention, tomorrow after school and you can write an essay on the benefits of sport in keeping a healthy body and promoting cooperation and team spirit. Bring it to me on Monday."

I changed the title to `The Fallacies of the Benefits of Sport' and researched sports injuries and also found many famous sportsmen and women became obese when they retired but my main thrust highlighted the bullying and humiliation of pupils by draconian sports masters and the effect on their minds and their lives. I didn't mention my P.E. teacher by name but anyone reading it would know to whom I referred. By good fortune, Mother is secretary to Millicent Townley-Pyle a lawyer specialising in no win - no pay accident cases and they've been close friends for many years. I showed the draft to Mother who took it to work and Millicent looked it over and gave several suggestions and case quotes. A note scribbled at the bottom indirectly caused my being with the girls for Games, "Bring your Quakerish beliefs into it and they'll have to regard this as a religious issue also. Hand the printed copy to Marstone only and you will undoubtedly feel his wrath but nothing will change, copy it to your Headmaster and Chair of Governors and any others you feel would help your cause, make sure you mark his copy that you have cc'd it to the others and wait for the fireworks." I emailed it to both of them and to the editor of the school newspaper who forwarded the email to a group of my classmates before the headmaster banned him from printing it. The word quickly spread to the rest of the school and I suddenly found myself at the centre of everyone's attention in a sort of David and Goliath situation.

Our small town secondary school had two classes for each year for pupils aged 11 - 16 and being 15, nearly 16, in the A stream of the fifth year and academically, far ahead of most pupils in my class, I intended to go to college the next year. Having more money than others in my age group and spending more time in the library, hadn't gained me any friends so I was a bit of a loner but I take after my father, a strong willed, determined executive who is rarely at home for more than a few days at a time, in that I too am stubborn and determined once I've set my mind on a course of action. My essay did indeed light the fireworks. Monday afternoon the school secretary called me into the headmaster's office to confront him, Mr. Marstone and Mrs. Sybil Pearson, chair of the governors. Mr. Marstone ranted on and demanded my expulsion but the governor abruptly told him to calm down and pointed out that I had written nothing that named him and my remarks could be taken as comments directed at games teachers in general. Dr. Nelson, the headmaster, suggested giving me a suspension until I calmly asked him to phone Millicent Townley-Pyle, my lawyer, he then retracted it, "She wrote this for you, didn't she?" he questioned.

"No Sir, but she vetted it and gave me the case references."

"Please wait outside while we discuss this further." I sat and waited, listening to the sometimes angry noises coming through the door until break time when Miss Coombs appeared and went in. I heard the sounds of more argument without being able to make out the words and shortly after Mr. Marstone left, slamming the door behind him. They called me in and Miss Coombs spoke, "Robert, Mr. Marstone refuses to have you in his class and if we force him to, your life would be hell with him, but the law says you must have physical education as part of your school curriculum, would you agree to be part of my class and have P.E. with the girls?" I must have looked shocked because she went on, "It's not something I want because he sees it as you being downgraded and my class inferior to his, which it isn't, but the alternative could be litigation and your being transferred to another school. With the excellence of your normal work here, that would be a real shame and a set-back for you and the school. It will mean rearranging your timetable slightly and you will suffer the comments of the rest of your class and from the girls at least for a few weeks but I will do what I can to curb that." I liked Miss Coombs when she taught history and wondered exactly what might happen when I did physical exercises surrounded by a group of nubile girls. Would I be able to control my penis when doing bend and stretch exercises with them and I saw their shapely thighs and bottoms and watched their tits wiggle and shake? I guessed they'd take every opportunity to tease me but I thought I could deal with that and agreed to the change.

Teamed with Fiona

Quickly undressing and locking my clothes away, I hurried back to the girls section and shortly found myself surrounded by two dozen, giggling laughing teenagers making fun of my shorts and shirt until Miss Coombs called them to order and asked me to choose between tennis and netball. Not having a clue on the rules for netball, I chose tennis, not that I knew much about that game either. "Who would like to partner him?"

"Let Fiona, Miss, she pretty useless in any team."

"Yes, I think I'll do that Sarah, but not for the reasons you gave. Fiona may well get more enjoyment out of a slower paced game than when you try to humiliate her with fast balls that send her in all directions."

Fiona, a slightly dumpy, plain looking, B stream girl, smiled and whispered cheekily, "I hope your balls aren't too fast." Fortunately no one else heard and we walked to the tennis store cupboard. By any standards, our game was slow and we didn't even bother to keep score but tried to return each ball to a place where the other could hit it back without moving too far. I quite enjoyed it and Fiona said she did too even when Sarah, playing on the adjacent court, laughed at us saying, "That's not tennis, that's year one pat-a-ball," but we didn't care.

I ended up alongside Fiona again for my second week and fourth time outing with the girls, a cross-country run. Predictably, she and I were last and jogged around the course well behind the others, so far behind that Miss Coombs ran back to check we hadn't gone into the woods, but we jogged our way round and having become accustomed to each other, chatted and laughed and during the conversation I learned she had a problem with her maths homework. I offered to help. Hurriedly dressing because I heard the end of afternoon bell and, knowing there'd be a football practice, I'd no wish to face the dreaded P.E. master and suffer his taunts, but Fiona took longer and the girls came out first and teased me with suggestive comments as to why we took so long and questioned why I now waited for Fiona, calling her my girlfriend. Maybe she was even at that early stage.

"Oh, so you're the guy who's training Fi for Wimbledon, come in," Mrs. Williams greeted me with a laugh and a hug that overwhelmed me. Mother never, ever, hugged anyone. Like her daughter, Fiona's mother's full figure and below average height, gave her a dumpy appearance, both having similar dark hair, round faces and a ready smile, I could easily see the family resemblance. Fiona explained my helping her with her homework, "Take him up to your room then and I'll bring some tea up, keep his clothes on till then." Her laugh made me wonder how seriously to take the comment.

The homework didn't take long and I tried to show her the method of working rather than do the work for her, "Better for her that way and if one of your plans for the future is to be a teacher, it will be good practice," I told myself but I also enjoyed our being close to one another. When I prepared to go, Fiona pleaded, "Please stay a bit longer. I rarely get any boy interested in me or if they are it's because of my tits and all they want is feel of them and a quick shag. I've let a few but none wanted to take me out or be seen with me. Games has been very much more pleasant since you came and I've enjoyed our time together but know little about you except you are one of the school brain boxes. What do you do in your spare time? Have you a hobby or do you just read books and study?"

"I have a sixteen foot sailing dinghy which I go out in when the weather is decent. I should be able to get a few more sails in before I have to bring it ashore for the winter. Would you like to come out on it next weekend? It's a beamy boat and quite stable..."

"Like me," she grinned, "And I'd provide the ballast."

I laughed too and explained a bit more about the boat and then asked, "What are your hobbies?"

"Embroidery, needlework and a bit of knitting, things like that I'm quite good at but I'm hopeless at maths." My eyes went to the ancient looking Singer sewing machine standing in the corner. "That belonged to my grandmother but it still works fine and I get more exercise treadling it than I do at P.E. I made a blouse last week."

She rummaged in a drawer and held a white blouse with gold embroidery in front of her chest. "That's very nice, Fi, but I think it will look better on you."

"You just want to see my tits when they're not half hidden under a tee shirt and bouncing up and down when we're doing P.E."

"That too."

To my surprise and without any hesitation she unbuttoned her school shirt, took it off and for a short while stood in front of me in her bra. "That's all you're getting to see for now," and with a quick shake of her breasts, fastened the blouse over them. I could still see her bra through the blouse material and felt my prick start to harden but her next, completely unexpected move, startled me; she flung her arms around my neck and gave me a kiss, a long, lingering kiss. No girl had ever kissed me and certainly not like that. Her tits pushed against my shirt and I know she felt my erection pressing into her thigh but she didn't remark on it and shortly after, broke the embrace and thanked me for helping her with the maths.

Sailing and after

A little before noon on Saturday I called for Fiona and we walked through town to the local sailing club where I had a mooring. Unfortunately we met Sarah and Claire in town and they took the opportunity to query our being together and asked where we were going. "We're just going for a sail in his yacht," Fiona tried to keep a straight face, "You might see us if you walk along the seafront." We expected the news of our being together would be all over the school by Monday morning. With more suggestions as to what we might do on the yacht, we finally made it on to my sailing dinghy; certainly it couldn't be called a `yacht'.

The fresh breeze made the boat heel over and gave us a fair turn of speed through the water, and with fitful sunshine, we had a most enjoyable afternoon. Fiona's early apprehension at being on a small craft that rocked when she moved, faded and she enjoyed herself, laughing when she took the brunt of the spray that came over the bow when we tacked through choppy water back to the mooring. Quite wet from the spray and with Fi's hair looking very bedraggled, we held hands and good-humouredly suffered the taunts of a group of boys and girls from school but knowing our being together would definitely be the talk of all our classmates on Monday, we didn't care and it confirmed Fiona as my girlfriend.

When I arranged the sailing trip, Margaret Williams invited me to eat with them afterwards and I'd had the foresight to leave a change of clothing there when I called for Fiona. Marge, as most called her, took one look at us and burst into hysterical laughter and we couldn't help but join in and the distraction caused her husband, George, still in his work clothes, to turn from watching the football match on the television, and he too laughed at our appearance. "Go and shower, dinner will take another hour so you've plenty of time," Marge told us when she'd calmed enough.

"And don't take too long or use too much water, I want to wash this cement dust off my body when the match ends. It had already started when I got off work so I didn't get a chance earlier," George added.

"We'll need to shower together to save water and time," Fiona grinned when we arrived in her room. I must have looked horrified because she went on, "Don't worry, it doesn't hurt and I expect you wanted to see more of me when I tried the blouse on the other day. You'll get to see and feel me and I'll do the same with you. Fair's fair."

My early embarrassment at exposing myself to her, quickly disappeared and I played with her large tits and mound under the pretence of washing them and she rubbed my prick to full hardness and made sure it remained that way while we towelled each other dry. We kissed and giggled a lot until we heard her father call out, "Game's over, yours and mine." Naked, Fiona dragged me along the landing into her bedroom, pausing at the top of the stairs to yell, "Bathroom's free."

"We've got time for a quick one." A push to my chest and I landed on my back on the mattress, almost smothered by Fiona's body as she jumped on top of me. "You haven't done it before with a girl, have you?" she whispered. I shook my head. "Try and take it slowly so I get some enjoyment too. I've been on the pill for a couple of years so you won't have to pull out."

Her dad clumped up the stairs passed the bedroom and I worried over the unlocked door but he went by and into the bathroom. "Don't worry, Robert, we won't be disturbed." I did worry but overcame it when Fiona placed me between her thighs and guided my prick in to her vagina. My natural instincts, reinforced by images seen on porn sites, took over and I pounded into her until, all too soon, I came and released my sperm.

We lay coupled together and kissing for a short while until a knock on the door and Marge's voice announced, "Dinner in ten minutes, get dressed now." That she knew we'd had sex embarrassed and worried me but she never mentioned it at dinner. She repeated the message to George in the bathroom. Using facial tissues, we quickly dried the juices from our mating, dressed, and while Fiona combed and brushed her hair, I pondered on the free and easy attitude to sex in her house compared to mine. I doubted if mother or father would ever permit me to take a girl into my bedroom even when I became legally old enough.

Mother didn't really wish me to help Fiona with her homework and disapproved of my taking her sailing, more so when I took her to see a film on the following Friday evening. "I hope you're not thinking of that Fiona girl as your girlfriend, she's from a working class family and you need to find a girl with better prospects to further your career. I'm sure there are plenty of other girls who would be glad to go out with you," Mother stated at breakfast on Saturday morning.

"Mother, for the time being at least, she is my girlfriend and I like her, I like her a lot. Unless they want help with their work, none of the other girls even look at me unless it is to criticise or make fun of my views on sport or what I do. Fi is down to earth and we get along well together and her parents are welcoming and caring and treat me as part of the family."

"Yes, I expect they see you as a rich catch for their daughter." I didn't believe this to be the case as they'd never asked about money and tried to pay for Fiona's cinema ticket. They weren't rich but it seemed that George earned enough to give them a reasonable living.

Dad's attitude showed a little more understanding. "They're teenagers, Becky, he'll be sixteen in a few months and if they get on well together, let them be. It will be good experience for later when he finds another girl. Hell, he's going to college next September and from what I've heard, she'll get a job here and when afterwards he goes to university, they'll be miles apart and probably they'll both find someone else, even if it lasts that long."

Well it did and if anything our love grew proportionally stronger to mother's disapproval. Early on I decided I wasn't going to treat her as a second-class citizen and brought her home with me and we braved the frosty reception from mother and treated it as a joke afterwards. At Christmas I received a beautiful dress shirt she'd made and when Father agreed on the excellent workmanship, I sensed his being less against our relationship and invited her to lunch on Boxing Day. Mother frowned but Fiona accepted in the hope it would improve her standing with her future mother-in-law; it didn't.

Over the Easter break we returned my sailing dinghy to the water and went sailing several times and mostly went back to Fiona's house for a shower, whether we needed it or not, and made love in her bed before or afterwards. Mother eventually found out about the sex from the mother of one of the schoolgirls and tried to ban us from seeing each other but by then we were both over sixteen and over the age of consent, so I stood firm and stubbornly refused to give Fiona up. We had several bitter rows over it but in the end she ignored our relationship and I think, pretended it didn't exist.

At the end of the school year and the end of Fiona's education, she got a job in a caf working either the 7 - 12 noon or the noon - 5 shift so I didn't see her during the day in the school holidays but the caf closed at five so whatever shift she worked, we had the evenings, Sundays and alternate Saturdays together. To bring in a little more money, Fiona took in sewing work and very gradually built up a clientele by word of mouth recommendations. Meanwhile, I'd been accepted on a two-year course at a local sixth form college to get the qualifications I'd need for university. Throughout this period we remained loyal to each other although we both had opportunities for other relationships through my meeting girls at college and her seeing men and boys when waitressing.

The crunch came when I passed my exams and at eighteen, accepted a teacher training place and would start a four year course at university in September, unfortunately the university with the most suitable course was in Newcastle, in the north of England and over 300 miles from home. At least by then I'd learned to drive and had a car. Fiona had started to take lessons as and when she could afford it but with little prospect of her affording a car in the immediate future. We had a tearful parting, knowing that we wouldn't see each other until Christmas and promising to write and phone. No email because she didn't have a computer and didn't really want one.

Four years later

"You've not applied to take Girl's P.E. Robert?" Miss Coombs jokingly asked when we sat for lunch in the school dining room after a pre-interview tour of the school.

"No Miss Coombs..."

"Nancy, please, you're not a schoolboy now and maybe you'll be one of the staff if the interview goes your way."

"No, Nancy," I grinned knowing she teased me, "I've applied for the maths post but I'm not sure I'll get it." I nodded in the direction of another candidate, a big, older and more experienced man who had already boasted about his qualifications and experience. The other two candidates were both newly qualified and I thought my honours degree probably gave me the edge over them but perhaps my earlier stance against sport would not act in my favour. Dr. Nelson, the headmaster, would remember me for that and he probably held the key to the appointment. Luckily Mr. Marstone left soon after I went to college.

"Do you still see Fiona? I remember you were very close at one time?"

"We kept in touch and I saw her at Christmas but her last letter came before Easter and nothing since. I didn't get home for that break because of exams and practicals and had to move out of the room I stayed in so at first I assumed she'd lost my address. I wrote several times but never had a reply and the phone number was out of service."

"You know her mother and father died about then? Shocking affair. Only by luck she had a babysitting job that night and wasn't at home."

"No, and mother never mentioned it. What happened?" I paled at the thought because I liked them better than my own parents.

"Carbon monoxide poisoning. A Pakistani owned all that block of houses converted into flats and by law he should have ensured all the gas boilers were serviced regularly. He didn't and worse still, at the inspection some time previously, he'd been warned they were becoming unsafe. We had that cold spell over Easter and the Williams' had the boiler on longer than usual and it emitted the deadly gas and they died in their sleep."

I must have looked deeply shocked and when a tear dribbled down my cheek, Dr. Nelson turned to me and asked, "Are you okay, Robert. You've turned very pale, the interview won't be that bad."

Nancy answered for me. "Sorry headmaster, my fault, he's just learned of the terrible death of his girlfriend's parents." Turning back to me she apologised again before going on, "They arrested the landlord and charged him with manslaughter but before it came to court, he slipped the country. The court seized his assets and put Fiona in temporary accommodation and demolished the flats because there were structural issues as well but I think she moved on from there but I don't know where. Your mother might know."

"She wouldn't tell me if she did." I tried to hold back my tears.

"Well your best bet is to go into Brigmans and get a coat or trousers that need altering and ask for a list of women that do alterations. Fiona is on that list," Dr. Nelson butted in.

The interview went better than I expected because one of the governor's sons had been in Fiona's class and I'd occasionally given him extra tuition too and I gather he made a great case for employing me. My rival, being an experienced teacher and on a higher salary scale, demanded other pay concessions the headmaster didn't deem acceptable and I ended up with the job.

*****

"Miss Fiona?" I asked into the phone using the best version of a Geordie accent I'd picked up during my long stay in Newcastle, "Brigmans said you might be able to alter a pair of trousers for me. I want a stripe put down one leg and a logo put on if you can do it." My heart fluttered at the sound of her voice. "Can I bring them to you and explain what I want?" Somewhat reluctantly she gave me her address. Later she told me that my foreign accent made her wary.

"Robert!" she screamed when the door opened and I took her in my arms and she kissed and hugged me fervently. Some time later we'd calmed down sufficiently to work out that we'd both moved at the same time and when no replies came to our letters, began to assume we'd formed a relationship with others. She showed her disgust at my mother because she'd been given her new address and mother hadn't passed it on. I took her out for a meal and we spent the night in her bed fucking and loving each other and making plans for the future, including marriage.

*****

"You can't be seriously thinking about marrying that trollop now that you've obtained a teaching post?" Mother burst out when, holding hands with my future wife, I told her the news.

Dad took it more philosophically and gave the tearful Fiona a hug. "If a courtship has lasted this long, with the lengthy separations they've endured, they must be right for each other. Congratulations."

It would take two years and the arrival of a baby daughter before mother's attitude to Fiona changed.

Sitting peacefully in front of the fire on an early October evening, watching baby Elaine feed from her mother's breast, we reminisced about the time nearly ten years previously, when we'd played tennis never dreaming it would be the start of a life together.
